For the Super Friends that were able to make it to Firkin Fest, let those of us that werent able to make it know how it was. Favorites? Underwhelmers? Good Stories? Anybody steal any signs? Thanks.
Having the VIP ticket was helpful. It was a madhouse later. Couldn't move even. War and Peace from Fulton was rockstar. Rush River had a grren tea and pomegranate brown. Very interesting in a good way. Surly did not impress me. Ho hum. Tyranena makes dog crap. Everything I've had from them I hate. I ended up helping Mike W pour for about half an hour. I left the even rather intoxicated. I had a great time.
I just typed a long response and this blog shit in my face and errored out. Here it is in short:
Tall grass pushed the envelope, I respected that as to me that is what these events are about.
Psych-Oasis: Very different and fun to try. In my top 5 at the fest. Major points for pushing the envleope. A-Team: was growing on me the more I had
Surly was very disappointing. The guys were very cocky for their underwhelming beer. I though the guy was going to jump over the table and strangle me when I jokingly said: "Hmmm...Abrasive, never heard of it. Is it any good?" Well the oak aged tea bagged Abrasive was not good. If there was such thing as an Oak extract, this is what it would taste like.
Fulton: These guys gained a lot of respect from me with War and Peace. I tried a few of their beers awhile back and was not impressed at all. They have a gem here though (yes I know they have been brewing it for awhile)Much deserved win for War and Peace...they are now back on my radar.
Signs: There was a mad rush at the end of the fest and it quickly turned into the LA riots as people jumped on tables to cut down the signs, and ripped signs off the back walls. I was able to grab a few out of the unsuspecting hands of the thiefs, in which I sold back to them...not kidding. I think I got $15.00 for a furthermore sign in which I promptly gave to Aran.
I love Tyranena and their super barrel aged rocky's revenge. My top 3 were the winner because i thought it should have won last year and psych oasis and the A team from tall grass. All of these were just on another level compared to the rest. Honorable mentions are Furthermore Oscura with whole bean coffee and Rush River Lyndale Brown with Green Tea and Pomme. I had a few beer that I didn't like but I will keep them to myself. As to the shenanagans that went down i really enjoyed the majestic movements of Kevin and Mike dancing after the fest, the great salesmanship of Corey selling all of the free signs for upwards of $10per, and the bruied leg that Kevin recieved and the broken glass that some how flew off the table at the Bulldog. All went well most came home uninjured and i still think all of that beer is refermenting in my stomach. See ya'll sunday
